CANTO Ostinato by Simeon ten Holt is the most played Dutch composition of all times. The minimalistic piece was first picked up by Mallet Collective Amsterdam and Ivo Janssen in a request by Tromp international percussion competition and World Minimal Music Festival. For the festival in 2013 in Muziekgebouw Eindhoven and Muziekgebouw aan het IJ in Amsterdam the first version for piano, 2 vibraphones and 2 marimbas was premiered.
With the work becoming even more popular by the version Mallet Collective Amsterdam made with Ivo on piano, there was a need to be able to play it as a mallet ensemble only. On special request of the same Tromp competition, a septet version is made for 5 marimbas and 2 vibraphones.
