Fusion of music, space technology and current affairsOn 22 January 2003, NASA made contact for the last time with the Pioneer 10 space probe, a space probe that was launched in 1972. This transmission was sent over a distance of no less than 8 billion kilometres. Aart Strootman had previously converted the data set from the space probe into music for philharmonie zuidnederland and his ensemble TEMKO. A series of successful concerts followed. Now, a new version of this project will start during Cultura Nova. Aart Strootman adds a new musical chapter to this work that addresses current global developments.Darkness Rises is supported by a film by director Dries Alkemade. The film contains space images that depict the mysterious journey of Pioneer 10.
