Canto Ostinato - Simeon ten Holt

The performance of Simeon ten Holts’ Canto Ostinato by Mallet Collective and pianist Ivo Janssen came from a project initiated by TROMP International Percussion Competition in Eindhoven and the World Minimal Music Festival. The first live performance took place during the latter festival in April 2013. The two marimbas and two vibraphones from the Mallet Collective give the Canto a completely different timbre than a performance by two or four pianos, as is the most common. Especially for Mallet Collective, Adams Muziekcentrale built new developed four octave-vibraphones that were not previously produced. Mallet Collective recorded their own version with Ivo Janssen, lead by Ramon Lormans, live in the Royal Concertgebouw main hall during the Robeco Summer Concerts 2016.
